We are looking for a Front End Engineer who is passionate about using their knowledge, creativity, and technical skills to make products that encourage positive social change.


We are offering a salary range of 30K - 40K Euros (depending on your experience), and we are open to exploring full time and part-time contracts options (with a minimum of 50% time dedication) depending on the candidate's needs.


We have operations in Spain, Portugal and the UK, and at this moment, people are working remotely or at our office in Madrid. You are very welcome to join us if you are eligible to work in any of these three countries.

3.These are some of the things you will do and achieve in your first year at Vizzuality.


In your first month:

  • You’ll learn about all the projects and the stack we use in each of them.
  • You’ll familiarize yourself with much of the lifecycle of a project.
  • You’ll have time to learn the various software systems we use for managing people, tasks, and projects and contribute to project meetings.
  • You’ll get to know people from other functional teams: research, design, science, back-end, and business development, and understand how our role interfaces with theirs.


During the following months:

  • You will work closely with all other functional areas within the company from the start of the project lifecycle until the end.
  • You will share ideas and collaborate closely with team members.
  • You will learn about the methodologies in place and you will have the opportunity to suggest improvements.


By the end of the first year:

  • You will help improve production pipelines, help find more efficient ways to work, and solve exciting technical challenges.
  • You will create charts and interactive graphics to make complex datasets understandable and support the creation of high-impact data visualizations from your prototypes.
  • You may communicate your work to external audiences through a variety of formats including blogs, conference presentations, and more.


4.Skills and experiences we are looking for in a candidate

(*) Even if you think you don't tick all the boxes below, we'd still love to hear from you. Nobody checks every box, and we are looking for someone excited to join the team and aligned with our purpose!


Must-have skills and experience:

  • Solid knowledge of Javascript, HTML, and CSS
  • Knowledge of modern CSS3 (Flexbox, Grid, Transitions) and CSS preprocessors such as SASS, LESS, or similar
  • Experience with React javascript library (Hooks, global state)
  • Knowledge of state management (ex: React Query, Redux, Recoil)
  • Experience with front end frameworks (ex: NextJS)
  • Knowledge of Git and version control tools such as Github
  • Experience with API Rest and Web services
  • Experience with working in a cross-discipline environment with designers, and other developers to produce and vet ideas through prototyping early concepts


Anything else to impress us? If you have some experience in any of the points below, we would love to hear more about it in your application.

  • Experience with web mapping libraries (Google Maps or Mapbox), especially with client-side rendering technologies such as Deck.gl or MapboxGL
  • Familiar and comfortable using design tools such as Figma or similar
  • Previous experience collaborating in a quality-focused environment where testing and reviewing is a part of the everyday process
  • Experience handling e2e test (Cypress)
  • Experience with project development using Continuous Integration and Delivery
  • Experience with data visualization libraries such as D3.js, Three.js
  • Familiar with Typescript (our new projects are based on this language) and/or Node.js and Express
  • Willingness and some experience in mentoring and helping others grow and develop.

  • A competitive salary. We are offering between 30K - 40K Euros (depending on your experience). This range is only an indication and we will agree on your final salary together based on your specific experience and profile

6.Recruitment Process Overview

First Screener: 

  • This is a 60-minute informal interview so you can get to know a bit better the company, our culture and ask any questions about the role and our ways of working. 
  • From our side, we are interested in understanding more about what you are looking for, your current skill level and experience, and what you care about.


Challenge: 

  • We will invite you to complete an assignment to get a better understanding of your skills, the way you organize your ideas, and also how you would go about sharing what we do with our partners and clients.
  • We will send you via email an assignment for you to prepare, and then we will ask you to send us your ideas back in 1 week.


Interview: 

  • You will be meeting with a few of us and we will deep-dive into your experience and skills. You  will also have the space to share more about the challenge you shared with us in the previous stage of the process. 
  • This will be another opportunity for you to ask us questions about the role and the company.
